A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. Here's our big news: We're Moving! To Nashville, Tennessee. (yee haw!) So if y'all ever get a hankering to see the country music hall of fame-- we're your folks.
Greg and I have already been to Tennessee and bought a house. In 3 days! That's a family record. Our previous record was 4 days. We rock.
Here's how you house hunt Greg and Shelley-style:
Spend one day looking at everything available.
Wail and moan because nothing fits your requirements.
Consider raising your spending limit while cringing and wondering how you will put your kids through college.
Decide the kids can work their way through college (college is overrated anyway, right?) and start shopping again.
Find a wonderful house that seems to have been made for you.
Convince the builder to give you more trees. (Trees are extremely important.)
Buy the house.
Leave town.
The house should be done at the end of September. We plan to move during Jack's fall break in October. He'll start school here and switch later. It's hard to leave California. We've been here 4.5 years. That's another family record. We've never lived anywhere that long. But this is a good move for us all around. The kids are taking it WAY better than we anticipated. I told Jack it would be an adventure to move. He said, "We're only going to Tennessee. That's not an adventure." Apparently, you have to go to Peru to qualify for adventure-status.
The first thing Jack asked me about moving was, "Do they speak a different language there?" Greg started to answer "yes" until I elbowed him and told him not to confuse the poor boy. In preparation, though, I've been teaching Sam to say, "Hey, y'all! Watch this!" I think that's a phrase that will serve him well.
Be sure to expect a lot of boring moving stuff here for a while. First on the list of boring stuff is a photo album full of pictures of our incomplete house. If you're really bored, you can find the floorplan here.
